Rue du Haut-Pavé in Paris: a street with in the left foreground a man pushing a wheelbarrow; beyond, rising above the rooftops, the dome of Sainte-Geneviève's church (now Panthéon); published in 'L'Art', volume XXV, 1881, page 311.
Etching, 1881, lettered with production detail: 'Lucien Gautier del. et sc.', 'Imp. Eudes', title, and 'L'Art'.
Lucien Gautier was an etcher and designer born in Aix-en-Provence. He studied art under Marius Reynaud, followed by studies in Paris with Léon Gaucherel. He worked as a journeyman etcher in Paris reproducing the work of Corot and others. In 1875 Lucien began producing original work that was highly praised, earning him medals and awards. He is best known for his etchings of Paris and other French cities, and also created views of London, Rome, and Venice. His work is widely held by French institutions and in numerous private collections.
A good impression on contemporary laid paper, with margins, very good condition.
