Engraving, 1590 circa, monogram at lower left 'CAB'.
Winged genius holding a tablet, standing on a sphere with three Barberini bees. According to Bartsch, the plate is a pendant with another one in which the Genius hods a tablet with left, right on his hip; on the tablet has added the dedication to the Cardinal Francesco Barberini by Alberti heirs.
A proof, rich in tone, printed on contemporary laid paper with watermark 'shield with pilgrim'? (difficoult to read), trimmed to copper or with very thin margins, transversal printing crease in the upper left, otherwise in excellent condition.
The composition depicts a winged genius standing on a globe on which are depicted three bees, symbol of the Barberini family. The plate is described by Bartsch together with another, of the same size, in which the Genius holds with his left hand only the table on which is written the dedication to Cardinal Francesco Barberini by the heirs of Cherubino Alberti (Bartsch, 147).
A member of the well-known family of artists of Sansepolcro, Cherubino was the one who had the most fame within the family nucleus. He moved to Rome between 1566 and 1568 and remained there all his life except for sporadic stays in his hometown, Florence, Perugia and Urbino. From 1611 to 1614 he was Prince of the Academy of San Luca and in 1612 he was given Roman citizenship. Of him we remember the Roman works performed together with his brother Giovanni in Palazzo Ruggeri (1591 ca.) and in the Sala Clementina in Vatican (1596-1598). Individually realized the decorations of the Aldobrandini chapels in Santa Maria sopra Minerva (1609-1611) and participated in the realization of the Salone dell'Aurora in the Pallavicini-Rospigliosi Palace (1613-1614). His engraving production is very wide and recently revalued, including about 180 prints inspired by the major painters of the time including Michelangelo, Taddeo Zuccari and Polidoro da Caravaggio, and as a draftsman.

He kept control of the majorityof his plates and was responsible for publishing them. After his death his heirs reissued many of them, with a privilege of Pope Urban VIII.
