Portrait of Pitagora engraved by Girolamo Olgiati and published in the very rare collection llustrium philosophorum et sapientum effigies ab eorum numistatibus extractae, printed in Venice in 1568.
The collection contains 42 plates depicting the most important philosophers and wise men in history. It was also reprinted in 1583 and 1607, with an increasing number of engravings, up to 76.
This is an Italian copy of the engravings by René Boyvin contained in Illustrium philosophorum et poetarum effigies, Paris, 1566.
Etching, in very good condition. Rare.
