Engraving, 1590 circa, lettered on cloud 'Magnum Pietatis Opus' and below right 'Cum Privilegio Summi Pontificis'
A great impression, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed to the platemark, very good condition.
Cherubino treated the representation of Corpus Christi supported in four engraving: the
An angel standing on a cloud supporting the dead Christ (TIB, 34, 139.21); The Pieta after the statue by Michelangelo in Florence (TIB, 34,141.23); God the Father with the Body of Christ after Taddeo Zuccaro (TIB, 34, 140, 22) and this "Pietatis Magnum Opus".

The earliest dated engravings are of 1571.The bulk of his engraved work was produced between 1571 and 1590. Mythological,devotional and ornamental subject ;portraits and antiquities. Prints after Raphael,Michelangelo,Polidoro da Caravaggio,Andrea del Sarto, Rosso Fiorentino, Taddeo and Federico Zuccaro. He kept control of the majorityof his plates and was responsible for publishing them. After his death his heirs reissued many of them, with a privilege of Pope Urban VIII.
