John Harrison ALLAN (1790-1865)
Member of the Archaeological Society of Athens and the Egyptian Society of Cairo.
He made a trip to the Mediterranean from April 1841 to June 1842. Allan published his memoir in 1843, a work of great interest especially for his illustrations, which was republished in two editions: "A Pictorial Tour in the Mediterranean". The plates were based on drawings made by Allan himself. His journey began in Liverpool and included Sicily, southern Italy and Rome.
