Description
Engraving, 1670 circa, monogrammed in plate below.
After Titian.
Beautiful impressions, printed on contemporary laid paper, with thin margins, light abrasions in the top, otherwise in good condition.
These works are part of Notomie di Tiziano dedicate all'Ill.mo Sig. Francesco Ghislieri, published in Bologna between 1670 and 1680. The title page contains the portrait of Titian between the bay leaves, the lion of St. Mark and a cloth containing the dedication. Here are 17 anatomical engravings: 14 of the plates are taken from De humani corporis fabrica of Vesalius and the other from Tabulae anatomicae VI, also of Vesalius. These, in fact, were not actually designed by Titian but by Jan van Calcar, while the first group’s paternity is uncertain and controversial.
Rare.
