Map taken from "Cosmography Generalis" by Paulus Merula.
The map , though clearly inspired by Mercator, represents a reduction of one built by Plancius in 1592.
Copper engraving, in excellent condition. Very rare.

Baptiste van DOETECUM (attivo a Deventer ed Amsterdam tra il 1554 ed il 1580)
Son of Johan, with whom he worked. Doetecum was a family of engravers and map publishers working in Deventer and Haarlem (from 1587). He worked for Pieter Plancius, Orbis Terrarum Typus, 1590. Worked with his father on engravings for Jan von Lischoten, 1595; Bible maps, 1609; Hannonia, published later by Joannes Janssonius 1633.
