Description
Engraving, circa 1630, without printing details.
Proof before letters, printed on two sheets of contemporary laid paper, joined at the center. In excellent condition.
A map of the walled city of Jerusalem showing the Temple, amphitheatre, palace of Solomon, the palace of Herod. Outside walls, in Golgotha with crosses.
In the top center, in a large circle, is depicted Jesus on the cross, and on the two sides, standing the Virgin and Mary Magdalene. God the Father, with the typical attribute of the halo triangular symbol of the Trinity, and the dove symbol of the Holy Spirit, supervises holding hands open.
In the architectural frame appear different figures of saints, including, next to the square cartouches left empty, St. Bonaventure (left) and St. Anthony of Padua (dx); while above, on top of the frame, we recognize St. Bernardine of Siena left, and St. Francis of Assisi on the right.
A very rare work, unknown to the literature.
