Description
Engraved bird's-eye view of ancient Rome on a Royal sheet. Example of the second state of two, with the address of Carlo Losi and the date 1773.
Title and key to principal buildings set at upper left, dedication in scrolled cartouche suromounted by the arms of the Holy Roman Emperor, Ferdinand II (Habsburg), dedicated by his councillor, Johann Vincentio.
Little is known about Geert van Schayk save that he was active as a publisher between 1620 and 1635. (See A.J. van der Aa Biographisch woordenboek der Nederlanden , XVII, p. 230).
A fine impression, printed on contemporary laid paper, with margins, repaired areas and paper fold visible on verso, otherwise good condition. Rare.
