Andrea Cassella was a custodian of astronomical machines, studied mathematics and wanted to follow in the footsteps of his illustrious uncle Angelo Cassella who had been recalled from a foreign country to found and direct an astronomical observatory in Naples. From September 1824, he joined his uncle Angelo, who suffered from ophthalmia, in recording all the events occurring in the atmosphere. In 1827, he was allowed to move to Paris to perfect his Mathematical Sciences and Astronomy. He specialised in geography, producing some maps “avec les meilleurs matériaux” and publishing an atlas with the cartographer Cesare Maggi.
