View of St. Peter's from the distance, the floorplan on a drapery supported by two angels at top, small images at either side and below image depicting the process of election of a new pope.

Etching, 1700 circa, lettered within image with title, continuing "qui s'observent à Rome apres la mort d'un Pope, et pour l'election d'un successuer", the names of the rooms, a capiton for each small image, and with production detail "J V Vianen fecit".

After the print by Robert van Audenaurde printed for the conclave of 1689.

Jan Van Vianen (1660 - 1726) was a Dutch engraver, painter and draughtsman specializing in historical and topographical subjects, active in the Dutch cities of Haarlem, documented in 1692, Amsterdam and possibly Utrecht. In 1703 he became a member of the guild of St. Luke, near the city of Haarlem. In addition to the above activities, he was also a book illustrator.

A good, strong, impression, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed to the platemark, few paper folds, otherwise good condition.
