Description
Etching and engraving, circa 1807, signed on plate. Beautiful impression, printed on large sheets of six contemporary laid paper, with thin margins, slight worm holes, otherwise in excellent condition.
A six-sheet (380x510 each), the sheet no. 2 contains the title within architectural cartouche with allegorical figures in neoclassical style, and the legend of conventional signs for the boundaries and in the streets. Below the title is written: "Aless.o of Anna inc., And" and "Gius. Azzerboni inc.". The sheet no. 5 carries two scale bars calculated in Italian miles and leagues of France, and in the lower left signed "Vincent Aloja sculp." Giuseppe Bonaparte run, starting from 1807, a paper on a smaller scale that would allow him to replace the old paper of 1769 and the most recent, but still coarse, representation of Bacler d'Albe, performed during the Napoleonic campaigns in Italy. Thus was born "the paper reduced in six sheets," contemporary geographical atlas sheets in 31, compared which is more modern and closer to nineteenth-century scientific cartography and contemporary, both in content and in graphic expressions. Joachim Murat left the dedication of his predecessor, but the Bourbon became the title on their return to the throne of Naples, after 1815. Antonio Rizzi Zannoni was an astronomer and cartographer, engineer, geographer in the Dépôt de la Marine in Paris and director of the Scientific Committee on the map of the Kingdom of Naples since 1781, and director of 'Topographic Office of Naples from 1807 to 1814. With him is born modern geodetic mapping in the Kingdom of Naples. This Geographic Atlas in six sheets you make corrections to errors of evaluation of longitudes found in the Atlas Maritime.
First edition of this rare and beautiful map of the Regno.
