The collection contains exhaustive information and sketches of remarkable artistic quality of many Italian cities and was published in sections over almost a decade (1770-1778). The work remained unfinished due to the author's death in 1779, and the list of Italian cities covered in the work runs from A to C. The work is often a valuable source of information on the structure, layout, architecture and history of Italian cities up to the 18th century.
