Description
Miniature map prepared for "Epitome theatri orbis terrarum" by Abraham Ortelius, in the new version by publisher Jan Keerbergen, first published in Antwerp in 1601.
After the death of Abraham Ortelius in 1598, Jan Keerbergen published a new edition of the Epitome containing 123 maps, all engraved by brothers Ambrose and Ferdinand Arsenius, copying earlier plates carved by Philipp Galle. The text is edited by Michael Coignet and knows multiple printings in Latin, French, German English and Italian between 1601 and 1612.
Example taken from the Italian edition of 1612, also published in Antwerp under the title Compendio del theatro.
Copperplate engraving, finely hand-colored, in excellent condition.
