Etching, printed on contemporary laid paper, good condition.
Little is known about Regnard, except that he was a French engraver who spent much of his working life in Rome making fine engravings of the magnificent buildings and antiquities.
This work by Regnard was published in Rome by Francois Collignon in 1650, without a title, but in a set known as Praecipua urbis templa.
The plates show elevations, sections and plans of 16th- and 17th-century Roman churches, with captions identifying them and their architects (with occasional misattributions). They include work by Carlo Maderno, G. della Porta, F. da Volterra, the Longhi family, G.B. Soria and many others.
Rare.
