Description

Sheet with three etchings, circa 1915/30, signed in ink at lower right Anna Mutinelli.

The first etching, from the left, depicts the interior of a bedroom (mm 150x98); in the center is a shrine (mm 203x98), and on the right what appears to be an interior of a painting school (mm 127x82).

Beautiful, richly toned proofs imprinted on a sheet of contemporary paper with watermarks "Crown embattled on Umbria Italia" and "P M Fabriano," with margins, in excellent condition.

Anna Mutinelli was a painter, of Venetian origin, active during the 19th and 20th centuries. She was born in Venice in 1851 and died in Florence in 1931 at the age of 80.

She attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and later settled in Florence. He frequented local art circles and became friends with various painters, including Giovanni Fattori (the main exponent of the Macchiaioli). He specialized in still lifes with flowers and organized a private painting school for young ladies. He is influenced by the Macchiaioli in his choice of subjects and use of color. He exhibited in several cities, including Turin, Trieste, Milan, Livorno, Rome and Basel. With time he also devoted himself to landscape themes. Both the place and date of his death, which some date to 1931, are uncertain.

According to Comanducci, in 1889 he exhibited Panneau (fruit) and Fiori at the annual Exposition of the Society of Fine Arts in Florence, and a Studio dal vero at the 1890 edition. One of his 1930 canvases, Veduta del lungarno Vespucci is currently in the deposits of the Modern Art Gallery of Palazzo Pitti in Florence. In parallel with her artistic career, she also worked as a drawing teacher. In the 1920s she taught in a public school in Florence.

We have found no traces of her other engraved works.

We relied on the watermark present in our example to date the three engravings. Umbria paper was produced by Cartiere Miliani Fabriano; production of this paper began in 1915 and was also used to print Giovanni Fattori's etchings of the centenary issue.
