View taken from the edition edited by Giovanni Gallarini in 1841 of Erasmo Pistolesi's famous guidebook, the Descrizione di Roma e suoi contorni: con nuovo e breve metodo per vedere la città in 8 giorni; adorna d'incisioni de'primi bulini.
This edition of the guide is adorned with numerous plates on the main sites and monuments of the city, finely engraved by Domenico Amici and Gaetano Cottafavi. The views are very similar to those the two engravers had produced in 1838 for publisher Agostino Valentini to illustrate Antoine Nibby's guidebook, Itinéraire de Rome et de ses environs rédigé par A.N. d'après celui de M. Vasi. Nouvelle édition...enrichie de savantes observations.... Rome, Proprieté d'Aug. Valentini, 1838/41. They differ, besides small details such as characters and field of view, in the title in French placed at the bottom and the title in Italian - smaller - at the top; exactly the opposite of those engraved for Valentini.
The plates are reprinted by publisher Gallarini without the text in the Album delle più interessanti vedute di Roma nuovamente disegnate dal vero ed incise con tutta finitezza da Domenico Amici e Gaetano Cottafavi, stampato in Roma, presso l’editore proprietario Giovanni Gallarini Librajo, Negoziante di Musica, Stampe, Carte Geografiche ed oggetti di cartoleria Ingl.e e Franc.e, Piazza di Monte Citorio n. 19, 20, 21 e 23.
Etching and engraving, with wide margins, in good condition.
