Johann Christian Klengel (April 5, 1751 in Kesselsdorf; † December 19, 1824 in Dresden) was a German engraver and painter. Klengel attended the drawing school in Dresden. His teacher was Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich. In 1790 he went to Italy and in 1802 became a professor at the Dresden Academy of Arts. One of his students was Karl Gottfried Traugott Faber. He painted ideal landscapes and idyllic compositions, mostly with morning or evening light. In 1812 he published a collection of twelve folio sheets for landscape draftsmen under the title "Principes de dessins pour les paysages" and in 1824 a similar number of preparatory sheets, known today under the title "Études de paysages".

Attended a course held by Canaletto and studied perspective. Joined the academy of Dresden. 1768-74 lived with his professor Dietrich. Started painting landscapes and animals. 1773 worked for Dresden court. 1777 appointed as member of the academy of Dresden. 1786 honorary member of Berlin Art Academy.
His huge estate was sold in Dresden in 1829, the rest in 1855.
