Description
Christ carrying the cross; Christ in the centre, surrounded by soldiers; to the left kneels St Veronica, taking back the sudarium with the Holy face imprinted; behind are the Virgin and St John; second state, circa 1480-1500.
Engraving, part of a Passion series, consisting of twelve plates (Lehrs 4-15), copied in the same direction after Schongauer.
A very rare work.

Monogrammist IC Monogrammista IC (attivo 1480-1500)
German engraver and goldsmith, active in Cologne at the end of the XVc, whom Nagler dubiously identifies (III, pp. 834-844) with the master Johannes Köln. His engravings, some twenty in number, are mainly derived from subjects by Martin Schongauer. His monogram consists of the two letters IC, occasionally separated by the coat of arms of the city of Cologne.
