Description
Mezzotint, 1735, signed and dated at lower right.
A fine impression, printed on contemporary laid paper, trimmed to the platemark and laid down on antique cardboard of collection, very good condition.
Gabriel Bodenehr II The Youngher, was an engraver and mezzotinter. Son of Gabriel Bodenehr I and active in Augsburg. Worked with his father, and their output is not easy to distinguish. The listing of his work in Le Blanc is very incomplete.
Johann Christoph Schaupp was an important German gemstone cutter and medalist born in Biberach on September 1, 1685. He soon gave up his initial profession as a comb maker, as it was not very lucrative, and devoted himself to the art of engraving and gemstone cutting, the knowledge of which he presumably acquired himself. His oeuvre includes numerous successful engraving works, as well as the embossing dies for four rare Reformation medals in 1717.
