Description
Echini and engraving, 1766 - 1769, after a Joseph Vernet's painting exhibited at the Salon, 1750.
Lettered with names of producers, publication detail: "A Paris, chez Duret Graveur, dans le milieu de la rue du Fouare", dedication to Christian VII, title, and provenance of original painting (collection of Marquis de Villette).
The beautiful large view showing a festival in Rome, with onlookers gathered on the bank of the Tiber in the foreground, beyond a duel opposing two figures, each standing on the prow of a rowing boat, and in the background, the Sant'Angelo Bridge, and the Castel Sant'Angelo.
The fashionable gentleman walking in the right foreground is a portrait of Joseph Vernet himself.
